NETmundial+10 publishes the outcome document preliminary version, which will be discussed at the event with participants from more than 60 countries

The document will guide the multistakeholder debates that will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, on April 29- 30, with more than 400 participants. The event will be live-streamed.

After NETmundial+10 held a consultation to hear from different stakeholders about the governance of the digital world and received 154 contributions, the event's High Level Executive Committee (HLEC) prepared a preliminary version of the Outcome Document, one of the main goals of NETmundial+10, with concrete proposals for the future of the governance ecosystem. This document represents an important reference for the global community and will serve as one of the main inputs for the multistakeholder debates that will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, on April 29-30. A final version of this document will be produced as a result of these debates.

There are more than 400 participants registered for the event, from more than 60 countries, including important authorities such as representatives from UNESCO, the Office of the Tech Envoy and other UN agencies, as well as governments such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, representatives from large companies such as Meta, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, the technical community - Internet Society, ICANN, LACNIC and APNIC, relevant ccTLDs such as CIRA (.ca), auDA (.au) and .PT, and the main civil society organizations, including the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Access Now, Wikimedia Foundation, Article 19, Colnodo, among others.

The event's preliminary document reaffirms the continued relevance of the 10 principles for Internet governance processes adopted in NETmundial in 2014, offering operational guidelines to help the implementation of these principles in a diversity of situations, and providing input into ongoing processes regarding the evolution of the governance architecture for digital issues.

"The governance of the digital world, more than ever, requires unprecedented coordination and cooperation among stakeholders to effectively unlock the benefits of this enormous transformation for everyone, everywhere - and to collaboratively prevent and remedy online abuses," mentions an excerpt from the document. "The global community has heeded the call of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee, actively participating in the consultation and seeking, in a multistakeholder and collaborative way, to build a common future. The discussions at the event will be substantive and will promote, from the Outcome Document, concrete recommendations for the governance of the digital world," says Renata Mielli, Coordinator of CGI.br and Chair of NETmundial+10.

During the 1st day of NETmundial+10, there will be a session to present the results of the consultation and the general status of the draft document, with comments from the public and HLEC members.

About the event

Based on NETmundial, held almost a decade ago in the country, the new event will take place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, in São Paulo, Brazil. Casting a look at the future governance of the digital world, the meeting will provide a space for players to meet, discuss and reach consensus on a new roadmap that can tackle pressing challenges of our time, as well as collectively build a common, structured agenda of priority issues for the global community, and further multistakeholderism to all relevant global governance and decisional arenas.
