Meeting with multistakeholder participation will produce document with concrete recommendations
On April 29-30, 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, in São Paulo, Brazil, NETmundial+10 will be held, a global multistakeholder event for a high-level debate on the global challenges surrounding the governance of the digital world. The initiative, which takes place ten years after its first edition, will be a unique opportunity for the national and international community to discuss how to improve governance processes in a context of accelerated digitalization and the rise of new technologies.
The meeting will bring together representatives of UNESCO, the Office of the Tech Envoy and other UN Agencies, as well as governments such as the US, UK, Netherlands, Germany, representatives of large companies such as Meta, the technical community - including the Internet Society and ICANN, as well as relevant ccTLDs such as CIRA (.ca) and auDA (.au), and the main civil society organizations dealing with digital issues, including, for example, the Association for Progressive Communications (APC).
As happened in 2014, the discussions at NETmundial+10 will result in a final document with concrete recommendations for the future of the governance ecosystem, which represents an important reference for the global community.
Program aims to build joint messages
"Global Challenges for the Governance of the Digital World" is one of the themes addressed on the first day of the event. Two working sessions are planned that will delve into aspects of the final document, considering the contributions received from the public consultation process carried out by the organization of NETmundial+10, a topic that will also be dealt with in a session with members of the event's Executive Committee, seeking to discuss possibilities and listen to contributions from the public.
On April 30, in addition to a working session, there will be debates on three topics: 'Process Coordination: GDC (Global Digital Compact), WSIS+20 (World Summit on the Information Society), IGF (Internet Governance Forum) and others', which will reflect on the fragmentation of spaces and the opportunities for more collaboration and coordination; 'Follow-up to NETmundial+10 and Implementation of Outcomes', which aims to gather opinions from the community on how the results of the meeting will be taken forward and how they will be implemented in relevant forums; and finally, 'Closing Plenary: Multistakeholderism for the Governance of the Digital World', which aims to present the NETmundial+10 outcome document and hold a brief discussion on possibilities and means of outreach to the global audience.
